About Split Peas
Although they are called Split Peas, these cute little guys are actually beans. Split Peas come in either yellow or green, and are about ¼ of an inch wide. Split Peas have a soft texture and a mild flavor. Split Peas have more of an earthy flavor than regular peas. Split Peas were domesticated before 6000 BC and from here; they spread across Asia, China, and through the Mediterranean region. Greek and Roman civilizations both relied on Split Peas as an important ingredient in their diets, but the Split Peas originated in Egypt.
